Promac Yes Wood Deck Dressing (Exterior) is a high-performance, oil-based treatment specifically formulated to protect and nourish exterior wooden decks and walkways. Unlike traditional varnishes that sit on top of the wood and can crack, this dressing penetrates deep into the fibers to provide flexible protection.
1. Key Features
- Deep Penetration: It soaks into the wood to replace natural oils lost to weathering, preventing the wood from drying out and splitting.
- UV Protection: Contains UV-resistant pigments and blockers that protect the wood from the harsh South African sun, reducing “graying.”
- Water Repellent: Creates a hydrophobic barrier that causes water to bead off, preventing rot and fungal growth.
- No Peeling/Flaking: Because it is a dressing and not a film-forming sealer, it won’t peel or flake off over time.
- Easy Maintenance: To refresh the deck, you typically just clean the surface and apply a new coat—no heavy sanding back to raw wood is usually required.
2. Common Applications
- Wooden Decks: Especially high-traffic walkways.
- Garden Furniture: Tables, chairs, and benches.
- Fences and Gates: Any exterior timber that needs a natural, “fed” look.
- Balustrades: Handrails and wooden stairs.
3. Application Guide
- Preparation: The wood must be clean, dry, and free of any previous varnish or wax. If the wood is gray or weathered, use a wood reviver or sand it down to reveal fresh fibers.
- Stirring: Stir well before and during use to ensure the pigments (which settle at the bottom) are evenly distributed.
- Application: Use a brush or a sheepskin applicator. Apply the first coat liberally and allow it to soak in.
- Second Coat: Apply a second coat after the first has dried (usually 12–24 hours). If the wood is very porous, a third coat may be necessary.
- Wipe Excess: If any oil remains “wet” on the surface after 30 minutes, wipe it away with a cloth to prevent a sticky finish.
