Bugger Off Eco Scented Candles are environmentally conscious insect-repellent solutions designed for high-performance outdoor and indoor-ventilated use. Utilizing a sustainable wax base rather than traditional petroleum-derived paraffin, these candles offer a “clean-burn” profile that effectively disperses natural repellent oils without the heavy soot associated with industrial wax.
Technical Specifications
- Wax Base: Eco-friendly Vegetable Wax / Soy Blend (Biodegradable).
- Active Ingredient: Natural Citronella Oil and complementary botanical extracts.
- Wick Type: Lead-free, natural cotton fiber.
- Container: Recyclable glass jar or tin with a resealable lid.
- Burn Time: Approximately 30 to 45 hours (variant dependent).
- Scent Profile: Refreshing Citrus with herbal undertones.
Key Performance Features
- Low-Soot Combustion: The eco-wax formulation is engineered to burn at a lower temperature than paraffin. This results in a cleaner flame that preserves the clarity of the surrounding air, making it suitable for covered patios and well-ventilated workshops.
- Slow-Release Vaporization: The vegetable wax provides a superior “scent throw.” As the wax melts, the citronella molecules are released steadily, creating a consistent protective barrier against mosquitoes and midges.
- Carbon-Neutral Footprint: By utilizing renewable plant-based resources, the Eco series reduces the environmental impact of your site maintenance or hospitality operations.
- Resealable Protection: Most Eco variants include a lid that should be replaced after the wax cools. This prevents the essential oils from evaporating prematurely and keeps “red dust” and debris out of the wax pool.
- Stable Melt Pool: Designed to liquefy evenly across the surface, preventing “tunneling” (where wax builds up on the sides), which ensures you get the full value of the 500g or 250g volume.
Professional Usage & Safety Tips
- The First Burn: CRITICAL. On the first lighting, allow the candle to burn until the entire top surface is liquid wax. This sets the “memory” of the wax and prevents tunneling in future uses.
- Wick Management: Always trim the cotton wick to approximately 5mm before lighting. A long wick causes a flickering, smoky flame and can cause the glass container to overheat and potentially crack.
- Placement Strategy: For maximum efficacy in the April 2026 twilight hours, place the candle “upwind” of your workspace. This allows the natural breeze to carry the citronella vapor across your position.
- Heat Displacement: Even though it is an “Eco” wax, the container becomes extremely hot. Place only on non-flammable surfaces like stone, brick, or metal utility tables. Avoid placing near flammable solvents or Lighter Gas Refills.
- Extinguishing Protocol: Use the lid or a snuffer to extinguish the flame rather than blowing it out. This prevents hot wax from splashing and contains the “after-smoke” which can be pungent.
Common Use Cases
- Office & Workshop Entryways: Deterring insects from entering through open doors during late-afternoon shifts.
- Hospitality & Patios: Providing a natural, pleasant-smelling repellent for outdoor dining and corporate functions.
- Technical Field Work: A stable, “clean” repellent source for technicians working on sensitive equipment like Kaufmann Rechargeable Spotlights or internal plumbing.
- Home Maintenance: Reliable protection while performing outdoor tasks like cleaning JoJo Tank filters or gardening at dusk.
Pro Tip: If the glass jar becomes blackened with soot, wipe it with a damp Shield Microfibre Cloth once the wax has cooled. To maintain the highest repellent potency this Winter 2026, store your Eco candles in a cool, dark cupboard when not in use. For a comprehensive “no-fly” setup, use the Eco candle for your immediate seating area and place the larger 500g Bugger Off Citronella Candle further out on the perimeter.
