Duram Duratape is a premium-quality, non-woven polyester reinforcement tape designed for use in conjunction with liquid waterproofing membranes. Engineered to provide structural integrity to joints and corners, it ensures that your waterproofing system remains intact even during natural building movement.
Key Performance Features
- High Tensile Strength: Provides a rugged, tear-resistant “bridge” over cracks and joints, significantly increasing the burst-strength of the waterproofing layer.
- Superior Flexibility: Formulated to move with the substrate, allowing the waterproofing membrane to expand and contract without rupturing.
- Excellent Saturability: The specialized non-woven fibers are designed to be easily “wetted out” and fully embedded by liquid membranes (like Duram Rainkote or Flexikote).
- Low Profile Design: Extremely thin yet strong, ensuring a smooth, non-bulky finish that is easy to overcoat and hide.
Ideal Applications
- Critical Joints: Perfect for reinforcing wall-and-floor junctions, roof laps, and parapet joints.
- Crack Repair: Ideal for bridging existing structural cracks in masonry and concrete before top-coating.
- Detailing: Essential for sealing around bolt heads, roof vents, drainage outlets, and skylight frames.
Application Steps
- Preparation: Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and primed if necessary.
- Base Coat: Apply a generous “bedding coat” of your chosen Duram liquid waterproofing membrane.
- Embed: Place the Duratape into the wet base coat, ensuring there are no creases or air bubbles.
- Saturate: Immediately apply a second coat of the liquid membrane over the tape until it is completely saturated and “disappears” into the coating.
Pro Tip: When applying Duratape to corners, always “pre-fold” the tape lengthwise to create a sharp crease. This helps it sit snugly into the 90° angle, preventing “bridging” or air gaps behind the tape.
