Duram NS7 Heat Resistant Paint is a premium, silicone-resin-based coating specifically engineered to withstand extreme thermal stress. Designed for surfaces that operate at constant high temperatures, it maintains its structural integrity and charcoal-black finish without smoking, yellowing, or peeling, even under intense heat cycles.
Key Performance Features
- Extreme Heat Tolerance (up to 700°C): Formulated with advanced silicone resins that can withstand continuous temperatures of 400°C and intermittent peaks of up to 700°C.
- Chemical & Weather Shield: Provides a tough barrier against atmospheric corrosion, moisture, and mild chemical exposure, protecting the underlying metal from oxidation.
- Rapid-Drying Formula: Touch-dry in just 15 to 30 minutes, allowing for efficient application on large components or machinery.
- Thermal Shock Resistance: Designed to expand and contract with the metal during rapid heating and cooling cycles, preventing the brittle cracking common in standard paints.
Ideal Applications
- Industrial Infrastructure: Perfect for steam pipes, boiler fronts, heat exchangers, and chimney stacks.
- Automotive & Mechanical: Ideal for exhaust manifolds, silencers, and high-heat engine components.
- Domestic Heating: The professional choice for wood-burning stoves, fireplace inserts, and flue pipes.
- Substrates: Specifically designed for bare mild steel and cast iron.
Critical Application Steps
- Preparation: The surface must be bone-dry and chemically clean. Remove all loose rust, scale, and old paint using a wire brush or sandpaper until you reach a bright metal finish.
- Thinning: Usually applied as is for brush or roller. For spray application, use only Duram NS7 Solvent (do not use standard mineral turpentine or thinners, as this will destroy the heat-resistant properties).
- The “Curing” Process: Like many high-heat coatings, NS7 achieves its full mechanical strength and chemical resistance only after being heated to 200°C for at least one hour. Minor smoking may occur during this initial burn-off.
Important Note: Unlike the standard Braai Paint, NS7 is an industrial-grade silicone coating designed for even higher constant temperatures. It should always be applied to cold surfaces and never over standard primers or old conventional paints.
