Sow and Boar Meal (40kg)
Epol Sow and Boar Meal is a complete, scientifically balanced maintenance and production ration designed for breeding pigs. It is formulated to support the varying nutritional demands of the breeding herd—specifically maintaining the condition of boars, supporting fetal development in pregnant (gestating) sows, and providing the foundation for milk production in lactating sows.
Nutritional Specifications
This meal provides a moderate energy and protein profile to prevent over-conditioning (obesity) in boars and gestating sows, which can lead to reproductive issues.
- Protein: Minimum 13% (130 g/kg)
- Lysine: Minimum 0.6% (6 g/kg)
- Fat: Minimum 2.5% (25 g/kg)
- Fiber: Maximum 8% (80 g/kg)
- Moisture: Maximum 12% (120 g/kg)
- Calcium: 0.6% – 1.0% (6 g/kg to 10 g/kg)
- Phosphorus: Minimum 0.5% (5 g/kg)
Key Features
The meal format allows for easy mixing with other ingredients if necessary, though it is designed to be fed as a complete ration. It contains a precise blend of grains, grain by-products, and plant protein sources. The formula is fully fortified with essential vitamins and minerals—including Zinc and Vitamin E—to support skin health, foot integrity, and reproductive longevity. It also includes specific enzymes to improve the digestibility of the raw materials, ensuring the pigs get the most out of every kilogram of feed.
Feeding Recommendations
Feeding levels should be strictly managed based on the animal’s body condition and stage of production:
- Dry/Pregnant Sows: Feed approximately 2.0 kg to 2.5 kg per day. The goal is to keep the sow in good condition without allowing her to become overweight, which can cause farrowing complications.
- Boars: Feed approximately 2.0 kg to 3.0 kg per day depending on the frequency of service.
- Lactating Sows: Increase the ration significantly to support milk production. A common rule of thumb is 2 kg for the sow plus 0.5 kg for every piglet she is suckling.
Note: Always ensure that breeding pigs have unrestricted access to clean, fresh drinking water, as this is critical for digestion and milk yield.
