Herschell Electrogliss Non-Flammable is a specialized, high-performance electrical moisture displacer and lubricant. It is specifically formulated for "live" or high-risk environments where the use of standard flammable aerosols (like typical penetrating oils or contact cleaners) would pose a fire or explosion hazard.
Technical Specifications
- Base: Non-conductive synthetic oils with non-flammable CO2 propellant.
- Dielectric Strength: Very high (designed to prevent electrical arcing).
- Flammability: Non-Flammable (ASTM D-3065).
- Appearance: Clear, light amber liquid.
- Volume: 400g Aerosol.
- Safety: Non-conductive and non-corrosive to most metals and plastics.
Key Features
- Total Safety: Can be used on electrical equipment while it is energized (depending on site safety protocols), as it will not ignite if a spark occurs.
- Moisture Displacement: It has a very low surface tension, allowing it to creep under moisture and lift it away from metal surfaces. This is critical for restoring electrical equipment after flooding or heavy condensation.
- Corrosion Protection: Leaves behind a micro-thin, non-drying protective film that seals out oxygen and moisture, preventing the "green" oxidation (verdigris) common on copper and brass terminals.
- Lubrication: Unlike "Dry" contact cleaners that evaporate completely, Electrogliss provides light lubrication for moving electrical parts like sliders, switches, and relays.
- Precision Penetration: Capable of penetrating into the tightest tolerances of multi-pin connectors and solenoid housings to free up stuck components.
Common Applications
- Mining & Heavy Industry: Lubricating and protecting electrical switchgear and control panels in damp underground environments.
- Marine: Protecting boat engines, outboard ignitions, and marine electronics from salt-air corrosion.
- Automotive: Drying out wet distributors, protecting battery terminals, and lubricating door lock actuators.
- Power Utilities: Maintenance of transformers, insulators, and high-voltage disconnects.
- Aviation: Lubricating and protecting sensitive avionic connectors and landing gear sensors.
Usage Tips
- Direct Application: Spray directly onto the affected electrical component. For moisture displacement, continue spraying until the "cloudy" moisture-contaminated fluid runs clear.
- Compatibility: While generally safe, always perform a small "spot test" on very old or sensitive clear plastics (like some 1970s-era gauge covers) to ensure no crazing occurs.
- No Residue Buildup: The film is designed to be extremely thin. It will not "gum up" or attract excessive dust over time, maintaining low contact resistance.
- Storage: Keep the can in a cool place. Even though the contents are non-flammable, aerosol cans are pressurized and should not be stored in direct sunlight or temperatures exceeding 50°C.
