Herschell Fast Dry Film is a specialized Molybdenum Disulphide (Moly) based dry lubricant designed for environments where traditional "wet" oils and greases are unsuitable. It dries almost instantly upon application to form a tough, durable, and low-friction sliding surface. Because it is a dry film, it does not attract dust or grit, preventing the formation of abrasive "grinding pastes" that can destroy moving parts.
Technical Specifications
- Base: Molybdenum Disulphide ($MoS_2$)
- Drying Time: Fast (Touch-dry in seconds at room temperature)
- Curing: Air-cures; no baking or sintering required.
- Compatibility: Excellent adhesion to most metals and many plastics.
- Volume: 300ml Aerosol.
Key Features
- Anti-Friction & Anti-Wear: Specifically formulated for components subjected to extreme loads and high-pressure sliding.
- Non-Tacky Finish: Unlike silicone or multi-purpose sprays, this leaves a completely dry residue that will not wash off with water and resists most solvents.
- Corrosion Protection: Acts as a barrier against moisture and oxidation, making it suitable for parts in long-term storage.
- Wide Temperature Range: Moly-based films remain stable at much higher temperatures than standard petroleum-based lubricants.
Common Applications
- Firearms & Lead Casting: Frequently used to spray into bullet molds to act as a release agent and to lubricate firearm actions without attracting carbon buildup or sand.
- Industrial Machinery: Ideal for splines, drive couplings, gears, cams, and pivot pins in dusty factory or agricultural environments.
- Anti-Seize: Can be used on stainless steel fastener threads to prevent galling and seizing during assembly.
- Precision Tools: Lubricating sliding calipers, micrometers, and other measuring equipment where oil would interfere with accuracy or cleanliness.
Usage Tips
- Clean the Surface: For the best adhesion, ensure the metal is clean, dry, and free from old grease or oils. Use a degreaser first if necessary.
- Shake Well: Because the heavy Moly particles settle at the bottom, shake the can vigorously for at least 30 seconds before spraying.
- Apply Lightly: A thin, even coat is more effective than a thick, dripping application.
- Allow to Set: Although it touch-dries quickly, wait a few minutes before putting the component under heavy load to ensure the film has fully bonded to the substrate.
