The Pascali 10M Float Switch (8A/16A) is a heavy-duty, dual-function liquid level controller designed for the automated management of water pumps and storage systems. This versatile switch can be configured for either "Tank Filling" (stopping the pump when full) or "Tank Emptying" (stopping the pump when dry), making it an essential fail-safe for JoJo Tanks and Pascali Pump installations in the Heidelberg - GP region.
Technical Specifications
- Cable Length: 10 Meters (High-flex, waterproof Neoprene/PVC jacket).
- Current Rating: 8A (Inductive) / 16A (Resistive) at 250V.
- Microswitch Type: Change-over (SPDT) for filling or emptying functions.
- Protection Rating: IP68 (Fully submersible).
- Max Operating Temp: 50C.
- Counterweight: Included adjustable sliding weight for depth calibration.
Key Performance Features
- Dual-Action Wiring: Features three color-coded internal wires. Depending on the connection, it can act as a High-Level Cut-off (to prevent tank overflow) or a Low-Level Cut-off (to protect your 1.1kW Pascali Pump from dry-running).
- Heavy-Duty Microswitch: The 16A resistive rating allows the float to directly switch smaller motors (up to 0.75kW) without a separate contactor. For larger 1.1kW or 1.5kW pumps, it should be used as a pilot switch for a dedicated starter box.
- UV & Chemical Resilience: Engineered to withstand the intense Gauteng sun and the mineral-heavy water typical of the Winter Bulk 2026 season without the cable becoming brittle or the float casing cracking.
- Non-Toxic Construction: The polypropylene housing is mercury-free and food-grade safe, making it suitable for potable drinking water tanks and livestock troughs.
- Adjustable Differential: By sliding the included counterweight along the 10M cable, you can precisely set the "start" and "stop" heights to prevent the pump from "cycling" too frequently.
Installation & Professional Tips
- Wiring Logic:
- Emptying (Pump Protection): Use the Black (Common) and Brown wires. The pump will run when the float is up and stop when it drops.
- Filling (Header Tank): Use the Black (Common) and Blue wires. The pump will run when the float is down and stop when it rises.
- Counterweight Placement: Secure the weight on the cable at the desired "pivot point." Ensure there is enough slack for the float to tilt fully ±45∘ without hitting the side of the tank or snagging on a Kwikot inlet pipe.
- Waterproof Joins: If the 10M cable isn't long enough to reach your DB board, use a Pratley Resin Junction Box to extend it. Never use standard electrical tape for submerged joins, as the Easter 2026 rains will cause a short circuit.
- Cleaning: Every 6 months, lift the float out of the tank and wipe down the casing with a Shield Microfibre Cloth. Remove any algae or lime-scale buildup that might make the float "heavy" and affect its buoyancy.
- Safety First: Always install the float switch on a circuit protected by a 20A Earth Leakage breaker. In the Heidelberg area, consider adding a surge protector to the pump controller to guard against lightning-induced spikes.
Common Use Cases
- Borehole Backup: Ensuring your JoJo Tank doesn't overflow when being filled from a borehole.
- Booster Pump Protection: Automatically cutting power to your Pascali Pump if the supply tank runs dry.
- Septic & Sump Drainage: Activating a submersible pump to drain grey-water pits or basements.
- Livestock Troughs: Maintaining a constant water level for cattle or sheep without manual monitoring.
Pro Tip: When installing the float in a tank with high turbulence (near a high-volume inlet), house the float inside a length of perforated 110mm PVC Pipe. This acts as a "still-well," preventing the water's surface chop from bouncing the float and causing the pump's motor starter to chatter.
