Herschell Copper Anti-Seize is a high-performance protective lubricant designed to prevent metal-to-metal seizure, galling, and corrosion in extreme environments. It contains a high concentration of micro-fine copper flakes suspended in a premium non-melt grease base. This aerosol format allows for a uniform, thin coating on threaded parts and flat mating surfaces that would be difficult to reach with a brush-on paste.
Technical Specifications
- Base: Bentone (non-melt) grease with high-purity copper flakes.
- Temperature Range: Effective from -30°C to +1100°C.
- Solid Lubricant: Metallic Copper.
- Volume: 400ml Aerosol.
- Water Resistance: Excellent (Resists freshwater and saltwater washout).
Key Features
- Extreme Heat Resistance: While the carrier grease may carbonize at ultra-high temperatures, the copper particles remain in place to act as a dry lubricant, ensuring that bolts can be loosened easily even after years of heat cycles.
- Prevents Galling: Essential for stainless steel fasteners, which are notorious for "cold welding" or galling during assembly.
- Anti-Corrosion: Provides a protective shield against acid, alkaline, and saline environments, preventing the "rust-locking" common in automotive undercarriages and marine equipment.
- Enhanced Conductivity: Copper is a natural conductor, making this spray useful for certain electrical earthing connections and battery terminals to prevent oxidation without breaking the circuit.
Common Applications
- Automotive: Exhaust manifold bolts, oxygen sensors (apply to threads only), brake caliper sliders (back of pads to prevent squeal), and spark plug threads.
- Industrial: Boilers, oven hinges, pipe fittings, and flange bolts.
- Mining & Marine: Any heavy-duty machinery exposed to constant moisture and vibration.
- Farming: Pivot pins and adjustable hitch components that are prone to seizing from dirt and rust.
Usage Tips
- Preparation: Wire-brush the threads or surface to remove existing rust and scale before spraying.
- Application: Shake the can thoroughly until the mixing ball rattles freely. Spray a light, even coat. Do not over-apply, as excess copper can interfere with torque readings on precision bolts.
- Torque Adjustment: When using anti-seize on bolts, reduce your torque setting by approximately 10% to 20%, as the lubricant reduces friction and makes it easier to over-stretch the bolt.
- Compatibility Caution: Avoid using copper-based anti-seize on aluminum components in highly corrosive (especially marine) environments, as it can lead to galvanic corrosion. Use a Nickel or Ceramic-based anti-seize for those specific cases.
